All children listen and respond to a wide range of music. They play percussion instruments and sing a variety of songs. They learn how to create and record sounds. Children have the opportunity to play musical instruments: lessons are provided by Barnsley’s Performing Arts Development Services. There is a charge for these lessons and tuition. Children often play in Collective Worship and other special services. Children also have the opportunity to learn to play the recorder in Key Stage 2.
Throughout school our music lessons are based upon the Kodaly system – learning music through using the voice.
The school is also part of a Wider Opportunities scheme – children play musical instruments as part of an orchestra. This is our second year of a strings orchestra. This initiative is jointly funded by the government and the school budget.
